Thanksgiving in New York
Tonight I was at a corner cafe in Chelsea, waiting in line to buy a soda* when I got a reminder about how silly New York can be. The man in front of me pointed to a display of bread in the window and asked how much for the turkey bread. That's right, a loaf of bread shaped like a turkey. The answer? $49.95! He seemed to think this was completely reasonable and bought a loaf. $50 for the equivalent of two or three loaves of French bread. Only in New York, only in New York.
